Genetic Diagnostic Laboratories is a full service Cytogenetics testing laboratory fully licensed by the State of New York Department of Health to perform a broad range of Cytogenetic services.
PERSONNEL
GDL employs a staff of NYS licensed medical cytotechnologists under the direction of Michelle J. Marinello, Ph.D.
Dr. Marinello formerly was director of the Cytogenetics Unit at the Buffalo General Hospital, Medical Genetics Unit, Department of Medicine, SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and studied at the Institute of Genetics in Lund, Sweden. Staff experience includes the Medical Foundation of Buffalo, Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, the Buffalo General Hospital, and Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Diagnostic genetic testing is a speciality unavailable through most full service clinical laboratories.
GDL diagnostic genetic testing services include superior turnaround time and the use of the latest technological methods in the chromosome analysis of:

PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS
Technology optimized for amniotic fluid cell growth allows GDL to offer DECREASED TESTING TIME AND EARLIER PRENATAL DIAGNOSIS – from 15 weeks gestational age.
The reliability and consistency of the methodology used at GDL allows a prenatal diagnosis turnaround time of 6-8 days for final Cytogenetic results.
FISH TECHNIQUES
FISH (fluorescence in-situ hybridization) is the process in which a fluorescent tag, attached to a probe is hybridized to a specific targeted sequence of DNA or RNA. This process can be used both on metaphase and interphase cells.
